Courier jobs are not as difficult to come by as you might initially think. Yes if you are just starting out and have no contacts within the trade the whole idea of finding customers might seem a little daunting. Well don't let it and remember all new courier businesses have to start somewhere.
So lets say you have no contacts and no previous experience how can you get started in the courier business without falling flat on your face oh and spending oodles of money... You need a plan. This involves time and effort on your behalf. Time put in now is time well spent.
Well my honest advice would be if you have never done this type of work before register as courier driver for another company.. The benefits of this are you will gain experience and confidence in your ability to run this type of business. Also carrying out courier jobs for other people gives you the opportunity to "see how its done". You will be able to see how they attract customers, which are their most profitable contracts and basically how they run a succesful courier business. How much they charge, how they are paid and which work they don't tender for!!
You will also be able to make contacts of your own by that I am not saying you "steal the business from under them" but you learn how to start networking with people in and connected with the industry.
Also when you do start your own courier jobs business you will be able to provide references for your own clients. This is especially important when delivering confidential documents. Your customers really do need to know that you are who you say you are!! and if you start off from the bottom with no previous history then you could lose out regarding some courier jobs.
When you do start off on your own sit down and brainstorm who your future customers could be - by that I mean make a list of companies, organisations etc who might be interested in using your services. Some ideas are the legal and banking world.. Think laterally and find out where these people are, what they need and how you can convince them they need you..
Courier jobs and the freedom offered is an excellent way to make a living - just go for it, believe in yourself and you will succeed..
