What is the Difference Between Hip Hop Abs and RevAbs?

RevAbs has hit the market and taken people by storm. Here at Extreme Fitness Results we can report that orders are flying thick and fast, and people are impressed and incredibly curious about Beachbody’s new abs program. However, we’re also getting calls from people who are now seeking to compare Brett Hoebel’s ab program to Shaun T’s Hip Hop Abs, the Abs program that made such a splash and put the legendary Shaun T of INSANITY fame on the map when it came out. How do they compare? Which program should you buy, and why?

Let’s take a look at the superficial differences. Hip Hop Abs has a lot more flair than RevAbs. If you’re looking for entertainment, if you need to be amused and truly engaged in order not to flag and quit, than this might be the program for you. Shaun T blasts great music as he and his friends work out, dancing and busting out dance moves that target your abs. There are even bonus DVD’s that are set in a night club, and Shaun T’s laughter are reportedly infectious and encouraging. RevAbs, on the other hand, while still lead by the charismatic and upbeat Brett Hoebel is more of an old fashioned workout; Brett encourages and stimulates, but it’s clearly phrased as more of a challenge than a party. Plus it has to be said: the music is simply better in Hip Hop Abs. No contest there.

Another key difference is the kind of exercises that each program uses. Brett Hoebel focuses on three key ideas: do ab exercises, lift weights to burn fat, and do cardio to rev your metabolism. In his program you’ll do everything target your core from six different approaches to lift free weights to interval training, all of which are designed to interact and supplement each other for maximum efficacy. In Hip Hop Abs however Shaun T never hits the mat. One of his biggest claims is that you’ll never do a crunch, but rather will dance your way toward fitness by combining ab blasting techniques with dance cardio. No weights either; Shaun T’ program is all about using your body weight to get your results.

Which is the most effective? Which program should you buy? That is the key question. I think it comes down to a question of style. The value of any workout program lies in its ability to keep you coming back for more. No matter how intense or effective or brilliant a program might be, if you lose interest or give up because it doesn’t motivate you enough, it’ll do nothing for your physique. That in mind, both of these programs will clearly deliver excellent results—one simply has to look at the before and after photos of the people who have adhered to the workout program and followed every step.

The question therefore is: do you want to be entertained or would you rather do something that feels more like a workout? Would you rather spend your entire time dancing, or are you up for a greater variety of moves and positions, ranging from the classic ab crunch to combined exercises with free weights to cardio? Do you want to just use your body weight, or are you willing to invest in some free weights? Whether you prefer RevAbs or Hip Hop Abs will depend on how you answer these questions. Do so some navel gazing, some soul searching, and then make your choice!
