Many people believe that hypnosis is only useful for treating psychological conditions and pain. However, it can offer some fantastic benefits for other problems such as people who are having trouble losing weight. Today, it has become more and more common for people to investigate using hypnosis to help them shed that excess weight that they have had difficulty in trying to lose for some time.

Most people who have had trouble losing weight have difficulty in controlling their eating habits and their motivation to exercise. While hypnosis can t make you lose weight by itself, it can help you by changing your thinking and feelings towards healthy food and exercising. A typical hypnosis for weight loss session will involve the person becoming very relaxed (maybe aided by the use of music) and then helpful suggestions are offered to the unconscious mind that will involve more positive behaviour towards lifestyle habits and better food.

A common concern about hypnosis is becoming vulnerable somehow while in the hypnotic trance. There are two responses to this. First, you unconscious mind will only accept those suggestions that it considers to be useful and that is not against your deep values or beliefs. Second, you should only undergo hypnosis by a trained practitioner who has a proven track record of helping people losing weight. In the hypnosis area, there are many people who set up shop after only a few hours training and who start advertising with unrealistic claims.

When you are in a hypnotic trance your conscious mind enters a daydream like state which allows your unconscious mind to listen to the suggestions being offered without any conscious interference. Because many of the barriers around losing weight are unconscious in nature – such as automatic cravings for bad food or bad feelings towards exercise – the hypnotist can talk directly to the part of the person which is responsible for this behaviour.

If you have ever done meditation or yoga then you will have experienced a similar trance like state to hypnosis. Other examples include losing yourself in an entertaining movie or book, or day dreaming while on public transport. In fact, what many people don t realise is that a hypnotic trance occurs everyday and it is simple a natural state that everyone experiences.

Using the hypnotic trance effectively means helping the person to change their thinking at the unconscious level to help them follow their diet and exercise regime long enough for the effects to happen and last. Those cravings for unhealthy food or lack of motivation for exercise can overpower the conscious minds efforts to change and keep the change. This is where hypnosis for weight loss can really help the person to excel.

However, while hypnosis is an aid it will not do the work for you. You will still need to make an effort eating the right foods and doing the exercise in the gym. The hypnotic sessions will make much easier to make changes to your daily routine. Finally, do not be misguided by any claims that a hypnotic session will automatically make you lose weight. Only diet and exercise can make you do that.
