Like all things organic and alive, human hair is also affected by daily wear and tear, and of course, age. As we age, the hair ages along with us. There is no escaping it, so we simply have to deal with the fact that hair isn’t there to look young: it’s there to actually reflect your biological age measured in years.

How You Are Aging Your Hair More?

Left naturally to its own devices, human hair is simply superb in maintaining itself. However, modern inventions have led us to believe that we have to invest in this and that to make our hair look even more beautiful. Repeatedly, serious researches into the life and times of organic hair has told us that all hair really needs is a little soap and a little water to remain sturdy and healthy.

Usually, using hair care products that give short term effects are to blame for the significant damage that is accrued by people through the years. Styling agents are the worst: it takes an incredible amount of effort to chemically force hair to bend or remain straight. You can just imagine what they put into those hair styling agents.

Life Cycle of Hair

If we were to look at the purported “life cycle” of human hair, we would discover that all hairs actually start out as fine eruptions from the scalp and skin. When does it all change? Well, human hair actually begins to evolve when a baby begins to crawl. It is in this period of development that more melanin is introduced to the growing hair shafts.

It is also in this period that the number of hair shafts and hair follicles increase exponentially to cover the entire scalp. This process continues well into a person’s thirties, where the production of hair begins to slow down.

Hair Density

If we are to analyze the statistics regarding hair density through the years, then we would realize that most adult populations are split into two groups. The first group retains the hair density well into the most advanced years. The second group however, is the antithesis of the first group. The second group begins to lose its hair when it hits the age of forty or fifty. Since the second group is sizeable, we can conclude that baldness is indeed a worldwide problem and should be approached scientifically and systematically.

Changes in Hair

If you’re a healthy male or female, then the changes in your hair, (even the weight of your hair) won’t be immediately perceptible. Under normal circumstances, your hair would seemingly look the way it was years and years ago.

And yet, when you take a closer look, you will see that as you reach the peak of active follicle production, your hair begins to lose its general density and its high melanin content. This is also the period of a person’s life that he or she begins to have grey hairs.

Grey hairs are not necessarily signs of aging; often, they’re simply signs that something is causing the melanin level to drop.
